State Comptroller warns Hoosiers of mail fraud

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Indiana State Comptroller Elise Nieshalla is warning Hoosiers about a fake piece of mail claiming to be from her office.

According to a press release, the mail features an “official-looking logo” and is being sent to both individuals and businesses. The office stated that they would never contact by mail for personal payments. They also said that legitimate mail from them will always include the official state seal (the Comptroller’s Office does not have its own logo), a return address to 200 W. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN, and contact information for verification.

“An entity posing as the State Comptroller’s Office is dishonest and violates the public’s trust,” said Comptroller Nieshalla. “I want to ensure all Hoosiers are aware of these attempts and how to recognize a legitimate communication from our office to best protect themselves.”…
