Indianapolis Woman To Serve Five Years For $330K SNAP Fraud

INDIANAPOLIS — After admitting to a scheme that defrauded the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program of over $330,000, an Indianapolis woman has been sentenced to five years in federal prison.

Desha Morris, 39, pleaded guilty in the U.S. Southern District of Indiana to multiple counts of mail fraud and benefits fraud. In addition to the prison term, she was ordered to repay $335,589.08 in restitution.

According to court filings, Morris carried out an extensive fraud operation between April 2020 and July 2022. Investigators said she used falsified documents, fabricated identities and rented residences to serve as mailing addresses for electronic benefit transfer cards.
