Indianapolis’ newest art museum is nearing completion, and now it has a new name.
Why it matters: The Contemporary Art Museum of Indianapolis is set to open this spring, adding 40,000 square feet of exhibit space to the city.
Driving the news: Nonprofit Big Car Collaborative announced the renaming of its five-acre campus on the city’s south side late last week in preparation for the new museum’s opening.
- The campus includes Big Car’s existing Tube Factory artspace, affordable artist housing and a sculpture park.
The big picture: The $7 million project includes the addition of six galleries for commissioned exhibitions, a performance and event space, art studios, storefronts for creative businesses and a cafe.
- CAMi, as the entire campus will now be called, will continue to be free for the public to visit.
