Neidhammer Coffee Co. set to close; could leave staff of at-risk youth without jobs

INDIANAPOLIS — A popular Indy coffee shop that’s served up opportunity with every espresso shot is closing its doors at the end of this year, potentially leaving its staff of at-risk youth without a job for the foreseeable future.

Neidhammer Coffee Co. on East Washington Street near downtown Indianapolis is more than a cafe, hiring local youth who are either at-risk or facing homelessness. The decision to close the cafe’s doors in the new year was a difficult one for everyone involved.

“It was genuinely heartbreaking,” said Trace Ferrell, GM of Neidhammer Coffee Co. “I’m not going to lie, we were all crying. This place is just so sacred.”

Neidhammer opened back in 2016 and, since 2023, the coffee shop has partnered with 91 Place to expand its services. Together, the groups provide transitional housing, jobs and mental health support…
