One person injured after accidental self-inflicted shot with bow in Indiana

INDIANA — A Sharpsville man was hospitalized Saturday evening after accidentally shooting himself with a crossbow arrow while hunting near Mississinewa Lake, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

Officials said the 49-year-old man was hunting on property at Mississinewa Lake when the incident occurred just after 6 p.m. As he was packing up his gear, investigators said his crossbow became caught in brush while he was lifting it from a shooting rest. The crossbow discharged, and the arrow struck the man in the left thigh.

Despite the injury, the man was able to get into his truck and drive several miles to a Dollar General in the Grant County town of Sweetser. Emergency crews were notified at 6:41 p.m., more than 30 minutes after the accident occurred…
