Heavy lake-effect snow and hazardous travel conditions are expected across portions of northern Indiana and southwest Michigan beginning early Wednesday morning, according to an urgent message issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Northern Indiana.
A Winter Storm Warning has been put into effect from 7 AM EST Wednesday to 1 PM EST Thursday, with total snow accumulations projected between 6 and 8 inches, and locally higher amounts possible.
The warning covers Northern La Porte, Eastern and Southern St. Joseph Counties in Indiana, as well as Northern and Southern Berrien Counties in Michigan.
Alongside the heavy snowfall, northwest winds could gust as high as 40 mph, significantly reducing visibility and creating whiteout conditions in some areas.
