Indiana school closings and delays for Tuesday

INDIANA — Schools across much of Indiana are planning delayed openings and schedule adjustments for Tuesday, January 20, 2026, as an arctic air mass brings bitterly cold temperatures, sub-zero wind chills and lingering snow impacts to the region. Officials say these precautions are being taken to help keep students and staff safe during hazardous morning conditions.

A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect across central and southern parts of the state through the early morning, with wind chill values expected to remain well below zero in some areas Tuesday morning.

Many school districts have already announced two-hour delays for Tuesday:

  • Marion Community Schools — Delayed 2 hours
  • Muncie Community Schools — Delayed 2 hours
  • North Miami Schools — Delayed 2 hours
  • Northwestern Schools (Howard County) — Delayed 2 hours
  • Peru Community Schools — Delayed 2 hours
  • South Madison Schools — Delayed 2 hours
  • Tipton Community Schools — Delayed 2 hours
  • Western School Corporation — Delayed 2 hours
