Indiana Alcohol And Tobacco Commission Denies Request For Licenses For The Pug Pub

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission denied two liquor applications for The Pug Pub, Mentone, on Wednesday, Jan. 21.

The Kosciusko County Alcohol Tobacco Commission made the recommendation that the state deny the request. The county ATC denied the request 3-0 for the liquor licenses for The Pug Pub during a meeting Jan. 8 due to it being within 200 feet of a church and not having a letter of acceptance from the church.

The state ATC stated The Pug Pub did not meet the statutory requirements for the liquor license due to The Pug Pub’s proximity to the church and not having the letter of acceptance. In December 2025, Mentone Town Attorney Austin Rovenstine said he put together an enabling ordinance after he was told a business was inquiring about a liquor license. He looked through Mentone’s ordinance book and couldn’t find an enabling ordinance, so he put one together…
