ANDERSON, Ind. (WISH) — Madison County officials have used federal funds for the coronavirus recovery to advance the building of two parks along the White River, and a roadmap for the projects shows construction could start in the spring.
The Madison County Parks & Recreation’s board this month received a conceptual map from the engineering and developer teams. The map is posted on a new Parks & Recreation website along with the “2026 Park Development & Construction Roadmap” that calls for construction to begin in the spring and finish in the fall.
It was unclear in a news release issued Friday from Madison County Parks & Recreation and on its website whether it owns the land to be developed for the parks. The release also said a timetable for the construction would be announced later. News 8 reached out to find out the cost of the parks’ construction but did not receive a response on Friday.
One park would be at the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Perkinsville Public Access Site, 9509 W. County 280 North. The site allows access to the White River for canoes, kayaks and rafts. Perkinsville, an unincorporated community in western Madison County off State Road 13, sits just east of the Hamilton County border.
