One officer dead, another injured in Beech Grove shooting
BEECH GROVE, Ind. (WISH) — A 33-year-old Beech Grove police officer was shot and killed Monday in the Marion County city, and another officer received injuries not believed to be life-threatening, the department’s chief said.
The announcement was made Monday night as hundreds of police officers in Indianapolis were searching for Kenneth Terrell Johnson, who an Indiana State Police spokesman said had opened fire on the two officers as they responded to a disturbance in an apartment.
About an hour after the announcement of Officer Brian Elliott’s death, the state police spokesman said on social media that the suspect was in custody, apprehended by a special weapons and tactics team of Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
