‘Still shaking’: Woman says shooting victim took shelter from gunfire in her Indianapolis apartment

INDIANAPOLIS — A mom of five was fast asleep, along with her young children, when gunshots woke them around 1 a.m. Saturday on the northeast side of Indianapolis.

“When he said, ‘Mom, they shooting,’ I said, ‘OK baby, we OK because we’re in the house,’” the woman said of her 5-year-old son.

The woman, who wanted to remain anonymous, said she grabbed her young son, her niece and nephew and took shelter in the bathroom inside their Hubbard Gardens apartment.

Soon after, the woman said her apartment door swung open and a bloodied person ran inside, eventually crawling to her room to escape the bullets…
