Enforcement starts in 2 new interstate ‘Safe Zones’

INDIANAPOLIS – Two new Safe Zone enforcement areas will be watching drivers starting Monday.

According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, the camera-enforced speed control zones are in Hancock and Jasper counties.

INDOT expands speed control zones near Greenfield, Rensselaer

The Hancock County zone covers I-70 near Greenfield from mile marker 104 to mile marker 109. The Jasper County zone includes a nine-mile stretch of I-65 near Rensselaer between exits 210 and 219.

The Indiana General Assembly authorized Safe Zones in 2023 to control speeds in construction zones. The law, aimed at improving the safety of workers and drivers, allows four such zones to be active at one time.

The Clear Path I-465/I-69 project on the northeast side of Indianapolis has served as one for a while. A fourth Safe Zone is expected to start along I-74 in Shelby and Decatur counties next month…
