INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Department of Transportation is planning to close a portion of Interstate 65 southbound in downtown Indianapolis this weekend.
According to a release, I-65 southbound will be closed from its interchange with Interstate 70 to Fletcher Avenue. The closure will be implemented at 9 p.m. Friday and end at 5 a.m. Monday.
In observance of the closure, the following ramps near I-65 southbound will be shut down as well:
- Ramp from 29th Street to I-65 southound
- Ramp from 21st Street to I-65 southbound
- Ramp from Rural Street to westbound I-70
- Ramp from Keystone Avenue to westbound I-70
- Exit 111 of I-65 southbound
- Ramp from Washington Street to I-65 southbound
Ramp closures will begin at 8 p.m. Friday. INDOT is planning to detour traffic around the closures via Interstates 465 and 70.
The closures are part of the I-65 Safety and Efficiency project, which is designed to “improve traffic flow and safety along I-65 on the southeast side of Indianapolis.” The project began in spring 2025 and is expected to last about two years, according to INDOT’s website…
