‘Such a blessing’: Mentors and mentees share Blue Devil Buddies success stories

For incoming first-years, the transition to Duke can be scary. But, for some, coming to college is a lot easier with the help of Duke Student Government’s peer-support program, known as Blue Devil Buddies.

The program was founded in 2020 to help incoming first-years acclimate to the Duke community. It pairs mentees with older mentors in their sophomore, junior or senior years who can offer advice and friendship during the often nerve-wracking transition to college life. Last year, the program created over 900 Blue Devil Buddy pairings.

Junior Cassatt Boatwright, a co-president of Blue Devil Buddies, said the program aims to “make sure that everyone who comes onto Duke’s campus as a new student has somebody that they feel like they can rely on, lean on and really have as a friend.”…
