Costco has filed plans to construct a 166,000-square-foot store in Clayton, North Carolina. This represents a $100 million investment in Johnston County. The membership-based wholesale retailer will construct the building on an 87-acre field at 12649 Clayton Boulevard, according to a report first published by Triangle Business Journal on Monday, July 6.
A 24-pump gas station will accompany the project. Johnston County has never had a Costco before, per the report.
Real estate developer CASTO sold the lot to the wholesale chain. The same developer sold nearby land to Target not long ago as part of the West Edge development plan in the area. Michael Susong, a spokesperson for CASTO, told The News & Observer the developers aren’t “able to provide a comment beyond what is publicly available…”…
