Three Killed and One Seriously Hurt in Speeding Crash on U.S. 1 in Southern Wake County, Troopers Say

WAKE FOREST, NC — Three people were killed and one person was seriously injured early Saturday in a single-car crash on U.S. 1 in southern Wake County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. Troopers said the wreck happened just after 12:28 a.m. near Friendship Road on the northbound side of the highway.

Investigators said the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control. The sedan ran off the right side of the road and overturned multiple times.

Troopers identified the car as a 2014 Infiniti Q50 sedan carrying four people. Authorities said the crash involved only that one vehicle and that multiple fatalities were found when responders arrived.

The preliminary investigation points to speed as a primary factor in the wreck. Officials have not said whether any other contributing issues are being investigated.
