It wasn’t supposed to be finished until sometime next year, but the rebuilding of a congested stretch of Louisburg Road in northern Wake County is done.
Dry weather combined with incentives from the N.C. Department of Transportation resulted in contractors recently completing a section of Louisburg Road where it meets Perry Creek, Mitchell Mill and Ligon Mill roads.
The goal was to improve safety and the flow of cars by reducing left turns and how long through traffic on Louisburg Road is stopped at red lights. Louisburg, which is also U.S. 401, has gotten busier as the Rolesville area has grown; nearly 60,000 cars and trucks a day pass through this stretch of U.S. 401, and NCDOT expects that number to top 93,000 a day by 2040…
