I wasn’t excited about Sunflower’s Cafe reopening. Happy, sure. A Raleigh icon coming back is always good news. But I’d already decided what it would be. Another cafe where I can’t eat much.
We popped not long after opening, in between events, needing something quick before an evening gala a block away. I ended up with one of the best sandwiches I’ve had in Raleigh, on gluten-free bread. I stopped to tell the chefs before we left, because gluten-free bread and a sandwich worth remembering don’t often turn up in the same building.
Then Campo Taco did it again a couple of weeks later. We sat on the patio, ate very good tacos at a price that didn’t sting, and I spent the whole time eyeing the margarita towers for next time. That’s twice in a month I was wrong about a place before I walked in. It’s the best part of this job…
