An exchange of gunfire followed and the suspect shot two deputies, including one in the stomach, according to Lenoir County Sheriff Jackie Rogers, as reported by NewsNation local affiliate WNCN. Both deputies were taken to a hospital, where one is in surgery for non-life-threatening injuries, Stroud added. It is currently unclear why the unnamed man shot at cars, but the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the scene is secure and that there is no danger to the public.
