Amtrak and the state Department of Transportation are making it a bit easier to take the train to the N.C. State Fair this year.
Amtrak’s Piedmont and Carolinian trains will make five stops outside the fairgrounds in Raleigh during this year’s fair instead of four as in years past. The added train is the southbound Piedmont No. 75 out of Raleigh headed toward the Triad and Charlotte and stopping at the fairgrounds shortly after 1 p.m.
Visitors coming from the west can make it a day trip to the State Fair by catching the northbound Carolinian, train No. 80, that departs Charlotte at 6:45 a.m. The train stops in Kannapolis, Salisbury, High Point, Greensboro, Burlington, Durham and Cary before its scheduled stop at the fairgrounds at 10:06 a.m…
