Durham Schools Chief Financial Officer resigns after suspension for overpaid staff members, district says

DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — The Chief Financial Officer of Durham Schools is resigning from his position after he was suspended earlier this month, the district announced Friday evening.

According to the district, Chief Financial Officer Paul LeSieur submitted his resignation to Superintendent Dr. Pascal Mubenga on Friday.

District officials said the superintendent accepted the resignation, which will be effective Wednesday, Jan. 31.

They said LeSieur worked for the district for 13 years.

LeSieur’s resignation comes after the district suspended him after DPS said some staff members were overpaid for months.

The district says it has notified employees that the changes in the “classified salary schedules approved in October 2023 were implemented erroneously.” According to district officials, this resulted in the overpayment for July to December 2023 that was processed in October, November and December payrolls.
