BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ – According to a press release issued by the Berkeley Heights Police Department on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, in a joint effort between Berkeley Heights and Bridgewater Police Departments, Jonathan Chavez, 30, hailing from Raleigh, North Carolina, was apprehended on February 7th on charges related to credit card theft, fraudulent credit card use, theft by deception, and theft.
According to the press release, the arrest stems from an incident reported to Berkeley Heights Police on February 5th by Lifetime Fitness.
Authorities received information that an unlocked vehicle had been unlawfully entered, leading to the theft of property, including credit cards.
Captain William Ives, spokesperson for the Berkeley Heights Police Department, revealed that a thorough investigation, conducted in collaboration with the Bridgewater Police Department, led to the identification and subsequent arrest of Chavez.
The suspect was taken into custody on February 7th, processed at Berkeley Heights Police headquarters, and is currently lodged in the County Jail awaiting a mandatory court appearance.
