Woman punched in the face by stranger on greenway in North Carolina

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Raleigh police are searching for a suspect who attacked a woman on a popular Raleigh greenway.

The Raleigh Police Department said the reported assault happened along the Walnut Creek Trail off the 1800 block of South Saunders Street.

Officers responded to the reported assault shortly before 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning. The victim, identified in the police report as a 27-year-old woman, told police she was injured when a man struck her in the face before running off. She did not know the man, according to Raleigh police.

Police said EMS was not called to respond. The investigation is ongoing.

Greenway users are urged by police to take precautions, such as always being aware of their surroundings, going with a friend, and calling 911 when they see something suspicious.
