It might be a good idea to put away the inflatable Grinch and the light-up reindeer family ahead of a cold front that could bring wind gusts of up to 30 mph to much of central and Eastern North Carolina on Sunday.
A few places could see gusts up to 40 mph, the National Weather Service said Friday.
What is the chance for severe weather?
The Weather Service said Friday morning there is a “slight” risk , 2 out of 5, of severe weather over a broad area of the middle of the state on Sunday.
Forecasters say an isolated tornado can’t be ruled out.
Rain is expected off and on through the region during the day Saturday ahead of the front, with up to an inch total in areas west of Raleigh and the Triangle. Temperatures will be around 68 in Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill on Saturday with rainfall totals of less than a quarter of an inch through Saturday night.
As the cold front moves through the state on Sunday, strong to severe storms could develop in the afternoon and evening, some with thunder, forecasters say. Up to three-quarters of an inch of additional rainfall is possible in Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill on Sunday.
