Fallen Greensboro police officer escorted back home from Raleigh

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WNCN) — Dozens of law enforcement came to escort the Greensboro police officer who died in a shooting earlier this week back to Guilford County Friday afternoon.

The procession escorted Officer Michael Horan from Raleigh to Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home in Greensboro.

“It’s heartbreaking to see a law enforcement officer lose his life protecting others, but it goes to show how dangerous this job is,” Nash County Sheriff Keith Stone said. “Every day, man and woman puts on a badge to protect our citizens.”

Horan was shot and killed Monday while responding to a report of an armed suspect inside a Greensboro Food Lion.

Tarrell Isaac McMillian is charged with first-degree murder in connection with Horan’s death. He was apprehended the day of the shooting after a multi-county chase and is being held at the Guilford County Jail with no bond.

Horan joined the Greensboro Police Department in 2017 and had also been a member of the U.S. Coast Guard since 2000. In 2019, Horan received a lifesaving award for saving a father and son from drowning while he was on vacation.
