10 people displaced after crews battle apartment fire in north Raleigh: Fire Department

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Residents of an apartment complex are currently reeling from losing their homes after a possible electrical fire accidentally set three apartment units ablaze the morning after Christmas in north Raleigh.

According to the fire chief on-staff with the Raleigh Fire Department, they were called to a working fire around 9:53 a.m. Thursday at the Cedar Point Apartments on Sandy Forks Road.

About 40 firefighters arrived at the scene to tackle the blaze five minutes after the call. It was estimated that 50 people were evacuated from the building.

“I was sleeping, but then I heard my mom screaming like come outside, there’s a fire,” said Epiphanie Akankwa. “I thought it was a fire but not like a serious one, you know?”

CBS 17 was on the scene when smoke was still rising out of the left side of building 7113, which, according to the chief, was a fire between two apartment units on the first and second floor.
