Local Matters: 1-on-1 with NC representative-elect Bryan Cohn

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — North Carolina’s next General Assembly will be sworn-in Wednesday, January 8 — but one political party will not return to Raleigh with the same amount of power that it had in its last session.

Governor Roy Cooper, a Democrat, finished his second and final term with a major obstacle. Republicans held a super majority in both the state Senate and House which meant the Governor’s veto pen had little power and Democrats had little sway when it came to legislation.

The 2024 election came down to one race that broke that level of control — House district 32 — which includes Granville and Vance Counties.

Democrat Bryan Cohn defeated incumbent Republican Frank Sossamon by 228 votes. CBS 17’s Russ Bowen spoke with Representative-Elect Cohn about how he won the race and what legislation Cohn believes both parties can agree on.
