Wake County’s Shinica Thomas Reappointed to Lead National Telecommunications Committee

Wake County is once again placing a key figure at the forefront of national telecommunications and technology discourse. Wake County Commissioner Shinica Thomas has been reappointed as Chair of the Telecommunications & Technology Policy Steering Committee for the National Association of Counties (NACo), a role she has previously mastered.

With a nod to her experience and vision, NACo President J.D. Clark entrusted Thomas with the chairmanship once more, a decision made early this month. “It’s an honor to be reappointed to lead NACo’s Telecommunications & Technology Committee, especially at a time when counties are navigating rapid advancements in AI, broadband infrastructure, and digital equity,” Thomas expressed in a statement obtained by the official Wake County website. Her perspective, honed by her tenure in Wake County’s governance, promises to invigorate the committee’s nationwide initiatives.

Thomas’s influence stretches beyond her chairmanship. Since taking up the District 6 seat in 2020, and her subsequent role as Board Chair from 2022 to 2024, she has been a steady force in both state, and national arenas. Her active participation has included contributions to the NCACC’s broadband and data fluency task force and co-chairing efforts on opioid settlement funding.
