16-year-old charged with murder in alleged DWI crash that killed 14-year-old bicyclist in North Carolina

HOLLY SPRING, N.C. (WNCN) — The Holly Spring High School student charged with driving under the influence in a crash that killed a classmate last month was indicted on the charge of second-degree murder Tuesday, police said.

According to the Holly Springs Police Department, the crash happened on Oct. 26 at around 1:40 a.m. on Avent Ferry Road.

An investigation determined 16-year-old Ashton Henry Rahlfs, a student at Holly Springs High School, was traveling west on Avent Ferry Road in a 2021 Honda Passport SUV when he struck 14-year-old Max Dunham, who was riding a bicycle, according to Holly Springs police.
