RALEIGH, N.C. — More and more North Carolinians are using trains as their mode of transportation. NC By Train continues to break ridership records.

- NC By Train has seen an overall 4% increase in ridership in 2025 so far
- Around 720,000 passengers travel by train in North Carolina annually
- New routes, affordable tickets, easy accessibility and special trains are reasons of the growth of ridership
- Possible expansions of stops are on the horizon along with new trains and upgraded stops
North Carolina has over 3,400 miles of rail, and more than 560 of that is for passenger rail travel, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
“Our trains currently serve Raleigh to Charlotte on a several frequency a day basis,” said Jason Orthner, director of the North Carolina Rail Division. “They also we have daily trains serving Charlotte to New York City through Greensboro, Raleigh, Rocky Mount, all the way up the East Coast, through D.C.”…
