Raleigh’s Fire Station 3 to Close in 2026, New Facility Planned for Community

Fire Station 3, Raleigh’s oldest and busiest fire station, will close in early 2026. The station has operated since 1951. Retired Captain Steve Wilson, who worked there for much of his 30-year career, joined other firefighters at a recent event to recognize the station’s history. He described the station as important to many firefighters.

Assistant Fire Chief Danny Poole, a former Station 3 firefighter, said a new facility is needed to meet current requirements. The Raleigh Fire Department plans to build a modern Station 3 to continue serving the community…
