Scammers are impersonating deputies, demanding money, Chatham County Sheriff’s Office warns

PITTSBORO, N.C. (WNCN) — The holidays are a time when phone calls from family and others are expected. If a deputy comes calling, though, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office says it could be a scam.

In a Facebook post made Friday, the sheriff’s office said it had received information about phone calls being made in which people are posing as deputies to scam others out of their money.

“While we’re all busy with holiday activities, family time, and travel, scammers are still hard at work,” the sheriff’s office wrote…
