RDU to begin terminal construction as part of $2.5B expansion

Travelers using Raleigh-Durham International Airport will begin seeing construction impacts in Terminal 2 starting in early January 2026 as part of the airport’s long-term expansion plans.

According to the airport, crews will install a temporary floor-to-ceiling wall at the north end of Terminal 2, closing off the area for approximately two years while work is underway. The project includes expanding ticketing and international arrivals areas, adding security checkpoint lanes, and upgrading the baggage handling system.

“If you are traveling through RDU in the new year, you may see and hear construction work in Terminal 2, but all ticket counters and security checkpoint lanes will remain open,” explains the airport’s website. “RDU’s guest experience team will be in the terminal if you have questions or need any assistance.”…
