YouTube video sparks outrage over dog shot by North Carolina deputy; Civil rights attorney shines new light on family’s tragic loss

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A Wake County family is still grieving the loss of their beloved dog, shot and killed by a Wake County deputy in April 2025. A West Virginia civil rights lawyer’s YouTube video on the case is shining a spotlight back on the incident.

The Briggs family said not a day goes by that they don’t think about their beloved dog Zelda, a Belgian Malinois.
