Columbia, SC – A sprawling winter system is set to freeze some of the South’s busiest travel corridors, with treacherous ice conditions forecast along I-20, I-85, I-95, I-26, and I-40 through early Thursday. Drivers across Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina are being urged to delay travel as freezing rain threatens to glaze roads and trigger power outages.

According to the Weather Prediction Center, freezing rain will develop Tuesday night and expand east through Thursday morning, with peak travel hazards expected Wednesday. Roadways at highest risk include I-20 from Birmingham through Atlanta and into Columbia, I-85 from Montgomery to Raleigh, and I-95 stretching through Florence, Fayetteville, and into eastern North Carolina…
