18-year-old charged in Briar Chapel vehicle break-ins, thefts, and firearm larceny

Pittsboro, NC – The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office has charged an 18-year-old Carrboro man in connection with a series of vehicle break-ins and thefts reported in the Briar Chapel neighborhood on January 10, 2026.

Deputies responded to multiple residences after receiving reports of breaking and entering into motor vehicles, vehicle thefts, and larcenies. During the investigation, camera footage revealed a vehicle that had been reported stolen in Durham entering Chatham County prior to the thefts. Additional surveillance footage from the area showed multiple stolen vehicles meeting up with the stolen Durham vehicle before leaving the area. An individual matching the height and weight of the suspect was also observed in the footage.

Investigators conducted follow-up work that included obtaining search warrants for cell phones believed to have been used in the area during the incidents. Location data placed a phone associated with the suspect in the areas of the reported thefts.

After further investigation, deputies charged Kevin Hernandez Sierra, 18, of 501 Jones Ferry Road, Apartment Q10, Carrboro, with four counts of felony breaking and entering to a motor vehicle with theft, one count of felony breaking and entering to a motor vehicle, three counts of felony larceny, one count of felony larceny of a firearm, two counts of felony larceny of a motor vehicle, and three counts of misdemeanor larceny…
