From space to the bottom of the ocean: UNC alumnus has been everywhere

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WGHP) — He has so many frequent flyer miles, he could never count them all. But his travels started in a much more traditional way.

“I have the distinction, the dubious distinction, of having seen the continental U.S. facing backwards out of that bumper seat,” says Jim Kitchen.

Kitchen grew up in Florida and his parents – both school teachers – loved to travel and would spend the summer months driving across the country with Jim in the back of their station wagon.He kept that love of travel when he came to school in Chapel Hill, where he still lives after graduating from UNC. Kitchen has been certified for having traveled to all 193 nations that are recognized by the United Nations and then added a couple more destinations.
