The new sign is up and the date is set. Extraordinary Thrift Store in Carrboro, formerly CommunityWorx Thrift Store, announced it will open to the public on Friday, Feb. 27.
Extraordinary Ventures — a Chapel Hill-based nonprofit that provides jobs and workforce training to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities — is adding the shop located at 125 W. Main Street in Carrboro to its variety of businesses. The move came after CommunityWorx announced in late December it would disband and hand off the thrift shop after more than 70 years.
“We are incredibly excited that our community will have the opportunity to experience the benefits of inclusive employment firsthand,” said Lisa Kaylie, Executive Director of Extraordinary Ventures in a release. “The Extraordinary Thrift Store is more than a place to shop—it’s a place where people can see what’s possible when everyone is given the chance to contribute, belong, and thrive.”…
