Cary Pushes for Transparency as Police Records from Former Town Manager’s Past Surface Amid Inquiry

The Town of Cary released a statement earlier this month, bringing to light non-public police records from 2016 pertaining to Sean Stegall, the former Town Manager whose past actions have stirred recent controversy. Cary Mayor Harold Weinbrecht, Jr., on behalf of the Town Council, provided insight into the decision to disclose these documents, underscoring the community’s move towards transparency. “These documents are concerning and raise many questions, questions for which we don’t have answers, and we won’t speculate on what happened nearly 10 years ago in the absence of facts and further evidence,” said Weinbrecht, as per the Town of Cary’s official statement.

In light of the escalating need for clarity Cary Police Chief Terry Sult led an inquiry into the matter, uncovering records that involved Stegall relating to an address that saw police activities between 2016 and 2017 although no charges have been brought against Stegall, Sult expressed his confidence in the continuation of professional, impartial law enforcement in Cary. “No charges were ever brought against Mr. Stegall in this matter, and there’s nothing in my inquiry that warrants further action,” Chief Sult stated, reassuring the community of the department’s commitment to upholding the law.
