Early Monday, a normally quiet stretch of Midway Avenue in Durham turned into a full-on police scene as officers sealed off the block in response to a reported threat, surrounding a home and flooding the neighborhood with law enforcement. Neighbors watched from a distance while traffic was stopped and crews moved in to set up a perimeter around the house.
Around 6 a.m., officers converged on Midway Avenue after being called to what authorities described as “a kind of threat,” and some could be heard using megaphones, suggesting they believed someone might be barricaded inside, according to WRAL. At least six emergency vehicles blocked access to the street while radio traffic instructed officers to “have cover” as they took up positions.
At one point, officers on scene could be heard saying, “We are not leaving,” language captured by WRAL’s Breaking News Tracker as the response played out. Police did not immediately release information on whether they were serving a warrant or who might be inside the home.

Authorities have not yet said if Monday morning’s response involved a warrant or another type of call.
