Man suspected of impairment in head-on crash with NCSHP trooper in Durham, authorities say

DURHAM, N.C. — Authorities on Monday identified the wrong-way driver who struck and killed a North Carolina state trooper on N.C. 147 and said impairment is suspected as a factor in the crash, according to WNCN.

Melshawn Moore, 39, of Kinston, was driving a Nissan Altima southbound in the northbound lanes when he collided with Trooper Steven J. Perry around 3 a.m. Sunday between mile markers 4 and 5 near Swift Avenue, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. Both drivers died as a result of the crash.
