Overnight Shooting At Crime-Plagued New Bern Avenue Motel Injures Man

A late-night shooting at the Wake Inn, a budget motel on New Bern Avenue in Raleigh, sent a man to WakeMed early Wednesday with what police say are non-life-threatening injuries. Raleigh Police Department detectives worked the scene into the afternoon, and as of Wednesday officials had not announced any arrests.

According to CBS17, the shooting happened at the Wake Inn and the wounded man was taken to WakeMed for treatment. The outlet reported that Raleigh police described his injuries as not life-threatening and that the case remains under investigation. As of Wednesday afternoon, officers had not released any details about a possible suspect.

A bulletin from the City of Raleigh states that officers responded to a reported shooting on New Bern Avenue at 12:02 a.m. and that detectives were conducting follow-up work. The notice did not list a specific motel but asked anyone with information to contact Raleigh CrimeStoppers at (919) 834-HELP.

The stretch of New Bern Avenue where the Wake Inn sits has been no stranger to flashing lights and crime-scene tape in recent years.
