‘You made us do this’: Lawmakers clash with North Carolina superintendent in second hearing over parents’ rights law

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A heated showdown at the North Carolina General Assembly put a Triangle school district on defense, as lawmakers accused its superintendent of breaking state law over parent notification and library books deemed inappropriate for children.

Dr. Rodney Trice, superintendent of Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, was grilled before a House Oversight Committee for a second time, as lawmakers questioned whether the district is complying with North Carolina’s Parents’ Bill of Rights.

“You made us do this. We did not want a second hearing. You forced it. You forced it by your continued refusal to follow the law at the expense of innocent children,” said House Majority Leader Brenden Jones (R) during opening statements…
