With rain Thursday pushing its NCISAA 2-A playoff opener back a day, Greenfield School turned that into a tune-up for Saturday’s semifinals with a five-inning 12-2 rout of St. Thomas More of Raleigh on a sunny Friday afternoon, May 8, at home.
The No. 7-seeded Knights, now 13-8, will leave the cozy confines of Ralph Hodge Family Field for a third crack at 2-A/3-A Coastal Plain Independents Conference rival Faith Christian (18-5) in Saturday’s semifinals. The Patriots, who beat Greenfield twice in the regular season, had a two-round bye.
“Faith is a really good team, very strong across the board,” said Knights head coach Daniel Johnson. “They’ve got several guys, seniors, committed to go to college. We know each other so well. A lot of those guys played together in the fall for our fall ball team, so they know each other so well, it creates a challenge a little bit, because they each know each other’s tendencies. But, I think we’re excited for that opportunity, because we know how good they are, and our guys are excited for that chance to knock them off.”…
