‘It’s hard not to cry:’ University turns hundreds away from watching graduation ceremony

RALEIGH, N.C. (WKRC) — North Carolina State University is apologizing after hundreds of relatives and loved ones were reportedly turned away from a graduation ceremony last Friday.

According to outlet WTVD, families arrived at Raleigh’s William Neal Reynolds Coliseum for the university’s Department of Biological Sciences graduation on May 8 to find a line wrapped around the venue. The Coliseum seats around 5,500, according to the school, and guests were told they did not need tickets or to RSVP to attend the graduation.

About 45 minutes after the ceremony’s scheduled start time, an organizer came out and announced to would-be attendees that the venue was at capacity and their only option to watch the ceremony would be on a livestream online or from the college’s student union…
