AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Friday is the last day to apply for an absentee ballot to vote by mail in the May primary. In Columbia County, key races include county commission and school board seats. In Richmond County, the mayor’s race and several commission seats are on the ballot.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A multi-vehicle crash on Peach Orchard Road sent two people to the hospital Thursday afternoon, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies responded around 2 p.m. to the 3400 block of Peach Orchard Road for a reported traffic accident. Investigators say a speeding vehicle traveling northbound struck the rear of another vehicle in the same lane.

A veterans cemetery in the Gracewood area of Augusta has been discussed for years. Plans are in place for a groundbreaking later this year, but there are concerns.

UPDATE: The driver, Wayne Max Harden, 53, of the 1800 block of Greene Street, has been identified, as has the stolen vehicle, a Mitsubishi Mirage. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has charged Harden with felony fleeing and attempting to elude, misdemeanor obstruction, driving while suspended, no insurance, unregistered vehicle, altered license plate, and reckless driving.
