Parakeet rescued from Hixson apartment fire that displaced residents Friday night

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — No one was hurt when an apartment caught fire in Hixson Friday night, but firefighters say a parakeet was found during their response. The Chattanooga Fire Department says several 911 calls were made about flames that were seen coming from a second story apartment on Cranberry Way at 9:45 Friday night.

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — At just 20 years old, the United States Government chose Chattanooga native Ed Westcott to take photographs for the Manhattan Project in Oak Ridge. "He has 15,250 negatives on cold storage in the National Archives. We have several hundred of them here in Oak Ridge but not all of them," said Ray Smith, Oak Ridge Historian.
