Two hospitalized in head-on crash near Diamond Head
HONOLULU (Island News) -- A head-on crash on Diamond Head Road on Wednesday afternoon led to two people getting hospitalized for their injuries. Honolulu Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to the collision at 3187 Diamond Head Rd. near Leahi Beach Park around 1:25 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. EMS treated four people at the scene following the collision.
Vegetation growth from recent rains may stoke wildfire risk
The state is still reeling from recent floods, but climatologists are already eyeing another potential hazard — wildfire. Torrential rains in March and April have turned Hawaiʻi's landscapes green with new plant growth. Much of that vegetation is thirsty invasive grasses, which dominate Hawaiʻi's unmanaged lands. Oʻahu artist breathes new life into trashed surfboards
Ruben Aira Jr. sands down the tail of a broken surfboard on a recent Saturday morning after cutting out the fiberglass and drawing intricate patterns resembling nature. His home workshop is filled with half a dozen surfboards he’s collected from the North Shore. Some were also donated to him after the March 20 floodwaters devastated O‘ahu’s North Shore.
