New York, US: A 23-year-old man became the latest victim of the city’s escalating street crime when two muggers brutally stabbed him while stealing his cellphone in the early morning hours on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, highlighting growing safety concerns in one of the city’s most vibrant neighborhoods.

The NYPD said it responded to the shooting at the Lillian Wald NYCHA complex in Manhattan's Alphabet City neighborhood overnight.

There have been at least seven shootings in the Bronx in the past week.
