Phoenix spent Sunday evening under a wall of blowing dust, and the week ahead offers almost no relief from the conditions that stirred it up. Strong outflow winds pushed across the Valley, visibility collapsed on several major corridors, and a dust storm warning went up before eventually expiring later in the night.

Anyone hoping for a fall outing at Canyon Lake will need to make other plans. The popular recreation lake northeast of Mesa will close to the public Sept. 8 and remain closed for approximately four months while its water level is lowered 54 feet for dam safety inspections and maintenance.
